[Tin Box Weddings]: What is the perfect time frame for couples to send out their Save The Dates?
[Dana]: My suggestion for the best time to send out save the dates is always between 6-9 months. This gives your guests time to get your date onto their calendar, to start making arrangements, & get excited along side you for your wedding day! This time-frame also allows you to have space between your Save The Date & your invitations.
[Dana]: Your guests will be even more excited to see theses sweet surprise show up at their door. two things in two weeks! There is one exception to the 6-9 month rule and that its if the couple is planning a destination wedding! You really want to send your Save The Dates out a year in advance. This is because you have made the choice to have a very special group of people travel to be with you. They will need to plan, save, book, etc so they can surround you on your big day!
[Tin Box Weddings]: Do couples need to send out Save The Dates?
[Dana]: My answer always when I get asked this question is no you don’t need to. Save the dates were actually just created a few years back. Quickly becoming more of a fun trend and something for you to do for your guests. You truly need to do what is best for you. If you are thinking about budget and saving money towards the things you really want for your wedding day let’s talk about that.
[Dana]: Many times I have designed Save the Date Christmas cards which kill two birds with one stone & can be a perfect way to save. Often after dreaming with my couples we find that we were able to save some money & add something cooler & more creative on your invitations; something like glitter bands giving them the wow factor you want. But seriously always do what works for you guys.
[Tin Box Weddings]: Dana, glitter bands sound so dreamy! Can you tell us about what exactly we should make sure is on our Save The Dates?
[Dana]: Those glitter bands really are! As for what to make sure is on your Save The Dates, make sure somewhere on there even if it is on the return address is both of your first & last names. One time I had a client who sent out a Save The Date to her father’s boss.
[Dana]: When he opened it he had no clue who it was from or for. Also make sure you have your wedding date, location or place, and your website link. Having your website link is great because it will direct your guests to the one place where they can find all the answers they need and then some.
[Tin Box Weddings]: Such a great story & helpful tip! Is there one thing you love to use when designing a Save The Date?
[Dana]: Yes! I love using photos! If you are getting engagement pictures taken you will have all these amazing & beautiful pictures that should be shared. Save The Dates are a fun way to show them off & they give your guest a picture of you that they can cherish forever!
[Tin Box Weddings]: We love couples who use photos for save the date as well. We are always keeping that in mind when we are out shooting their engagement photos. Creative angles, different props, unique spacing, & even giving some hint into what guest can expect to find the day of their actual wedding! This has all been so great Dana. Is there one more top 5 question that couples must know the answer to?
[Dana]: YES! Be creative… think out of the box…dream away! Bring all those ideas to me so I can help make them come true! I love it when couples bring in ideas from Pinterest. We get to work together taking those ideas and making them YOU! Bringing in themes, colors, etc. can also be so much fun! I had one couple whose reception was at the SAC Museum.
[Dana]: The thought of being surrounded by amazing vintage airplanes was the foundation. We started with building their plane ticket inspired Save The Date. That lead right into their fun travel plan invitations! Getting ideas from couples & Pinterest is always a huge help & I love having the chance to partner with them on this celebration of their love & life together!
