It was a perfect May afternoon for Amanda & Ej’s wedding with a sweet ceremony at their Papillion home church and reception in Missouri Valley, Iowa. When I say perfect I mean it too! Yes there were thunderstorms (ok a downpour!) in the morning and we watched stormy clouds roll in over the church with a little worry for our plans to shoot wedding photos outside. As generally happens though the clouds cleared and we had beautiful light for photos and a great setting in the wooded area of Loess Hills and Hitchcock Nature Center (a perfect location on the way for this Missouri Valley, Iowa Wedding.)
Perfect too, considering that Amanda & EJ braved an incredibly fridged day early in the spring for their engagement photos with us. There was lots of snuggles. (Sometimes the craziest weather makes for the best photo moments!).
Ej had warned us when we first met that all of their friends have a wedding tradition of playing some type of prank on the couple. They had no idea what it would be but said it was sure to be funny and maybe even a little disruptive. The prank happened just as promised, during the wedding ceremony. When the ring bearer was asked to present the ring, suddenly it was no where to be found! I’ll admit I was confused at first too. How did he loose the ring!? Suddenly all the groomsmen are checking pockets and out appear all type of different “rings” – donut rings, onion rings, baby teething rings, a ring pop, even hoola-hoops! Hilarity ensued of course as Amanda and EJ realized this was their wedding prank. Almost unnoticed the rings zipped their way down the aisle taped to the top of a bright yellow remote control car. Relief! and more laughter.
I think laughter is a good word to describe Amanda & Ej’s wedding. The family and friends gathered around were so easy and free in their love and friendship. The couple laughed and joked, beaming at each other all day. A very special moment for a first look with dad left everyone smiling through tears and when EJ pulled out a lightsaber and nerf gun for a few “fun shots” we were not shocked. Full of surprises.
Here is to wishing Amanda & EJ have a wonderful marriage together full of fun and laughter.
